Colleague Handbook
Colleague Handbook
Our people are the beating heart of Barnardo's, and we want them to feel appreciated for doing the best they can for children and young people. We aim to attract and retain a diverse and passionate group of colleagues, and to recognise and reward them for striving for excellence and living our values. We want to make sure that Barnardo's is a place where everyone can belong, grow and thrive.
Our approach to Pay, Reward and Recognition is guided by our pay philosophy of 3 core principles: Fair, Attractive, and Progressive and is enabled by a simpler pay grade architecture, new processes, and a broader concept of reward and recognition.
Our Pay Policy sets out the fundamental aspects of Pay and Reward provisions, including the Pay Framework, how job evaluation and grading works for new positions, or existing positions reviewed, our approach to appointing starting salaries or on promotion, and details on applicable allowances, overtime provisions, and payment for additional duties. Full details can be found in the Pay Section on Inside Barnardo’s.
General information on Barnardo’s pay and grading structure can be found in the Pay section on Inside Barnardo’s. Please refer to your written statement of conditions of service for your own specific pay and grade details.
Barnardo’s has a job evaluation system to determine the grade of all jobs within Barnardo’s. Job evaluation can take place when a new post is created; when there has been a significant change in the content, level of responsibility and/or method of working of a job; or at the request of the jobholder with their line managers support. Job evaluation information can be found on Inside Barnardo’s.
